At Lace Lithography, we're reinventing chipmaking - atom by atom. Backed by top-tier investors and the European Innovation Council, we’re developing a novel lithography platform that will push semiconductor manufacturing into its next frontier. Our teams are located across Bergen, York, and Barcelona, and we're growing fast.
We’re now hiring a Junior Hardware Development Engineer/Physicist to join our Source squad in Bergen, where you’ll help design, build, and test the systems that generate high-precision atom beams at the core of our platform.
About the Role
This is an early-career opportunity for a hands-on engineer or experimental physicist with a strong interest in complex instrumentation and real-world impact. You’ll work closely with experienced team members across hardware, optics, and physics to learn, contribute, and grow as an engineer.
You’ll help build beam-generating modules, assemble experimental setups, and contribute to mechanical design and testing. We’re looking for someone curious, practical, and excited to work with advanced tools and technology in a highly collaborative environment.
This role is based in Bergen and includes occasional travel to our Barcelona and York sites for cross-team collaboration.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and test complex high-vacuum (essential) and ultra-high-vacuum (desirable) systems
- Oversee hands-on assembly, integration, and commissioning of vacuum systems and associated instrumentation
- Contribute to mechanical design using CAD software and participate in design reviews
- Work with the team on beam diagnostics, alignment, and system troubleshooting
- Prepare technical documentation and other reports for company-wide circulation
- Learn from experts across physics, optics, and engineering disciplines
Who you are
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
- Hands-on experience from labs, student projects, or internships—especially involving vacuum systems, measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems (DAQs), multimeters, timing devices, etc.), or mechanical design
- Proficiency or interest in using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
- Practical mindset and enthusiasm for working on real hardware and solving open-ended challenges
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute to a fast-moving, supportive team
